Mission

Safe Streets unites and inspires youth, neighbors and businesses to build safe, healthy, thriving communities.

About

COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION-In 2018 Safe Streets organized many neighborhoods and community groups with 76 current active groups to take action and create safe neighborhoods through observing/reporting of criminal activity to create safe and family friendly spaces within their neighborhoods. Safe Streets has mobilized many volunteers through Pierce County by block, neighborhood and community organizing, leadership development, public education and presentations, and building partnerships for a safe community. Total clients serviced in 2018 has increased slightly due to new partnership with Pierce County Sheriff's Department and referrals from their Community Liaison Deputy's to help in areas that have typically been difficult to reach. We have 1,123 registered neighborhood group members, 3,255 group member hours volunteering for safe, healthy, and thriving communities. Safe Streets has a great partnership with the City of Tacoma, Tacoma Police Department, Pierce County, Pierce County Sheriff's Department, Tacoma Pierce County health Department, Tacoma School District and Franklin Pierce School District. Through the involvement of neighborhood groups, Safe Streets is working with community members to create a "Whole Neighborhoods" initiative which focuses on youth and families within these neighborhoods.
