Mission

We actively involve the community in protecting, restoring, and appreciating the important natural habitats and resource lands that support the diversity of life on our islands and in the waters of Puget Sound.

About

Land protection: Our efforts to protect land in 2019 resulted in 10 completed projects totaling 328 acres that conserved forest, farmland, wetlands, tidelands, coastal uplands. We completed three conservation easements, five fee land acquisitions, and two assists on fee acquisitions. Conserved lands included two scenic and historic family farms in Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve and forested shoreline and freshwater wetland along Saratoga Passage. A notable fee acquisition was the forested Possession Sound Preserve, with 2,800 feet along Puget Sound benefitting salmon and orcas with public access to the beach. Funding for these acquisitions included five grants (local, state and federal) and generous property owner donations. We also submitted grants and actively worked on protecting another 20 properties, many to close in 2020.
