About

Notable achievements in the 2018FY toward the organizations purpose included Prescott Creeks work with the AZ Dept. of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to continue planning and implementing surface water quality improvements in the Granite Creek Watershed. Funding was awarded from the agency to design and build a publicly accessible bathroom on Miller Creek. During the 2018FY, Prescott Creeks selected a pre-cast concrete building and began working through permitting issues with the local jurisdiction and scheduled the building for completion in the following year. Informal partnerships with Prescott Audubon Society continued in the 2018FY to both continue bird monitoring begun during the Watson Woods Riparian Preserve Restoration Project (ca. 2008-2013) and to monitor nest boxes installed to support both American kestrels and wood ducks. The Prescott Creeks In-Lieu-Fee Mitigation Program continued within the Preserve to with furtherance of development plans and on the ground work. With the Preserves lease agreement maturing in 2020, Prescott Creeks and the City of Prescott continued to explore renewal options along with in-perpetuity protection for the area. Work continued with the Citys Public Works Department regarding sewer infrastructure within the Preserve. Revegetation projects were performed to mitigate impacts from the installation of a sewer line. Educational efforts and opportunities during the year supported the above projects and the organizations mission of achieving healthy watershed and clean waters in Central Arizona. Social media continued to be an avenue for Outreach with a decreased emphasis on traditional print publications. Presentations were made to both local groups and regional audiences. The annual Granite Creek Cleanup drew approximately 400 volunteers to remove a decreased volume of trash from local creeks. The 1.24 tons of trash collected represent a return to the overall decline in trash collections over twelve years. For a fourth year, Prescott Creeks partnered with Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters, and new partner, Friends of the Verde River to produce a silent auction at the Tilted Earth Festival in Cornville, AZ an event which has drawn over ~10,000 people from around the state. The event also featured presentation of Prescott Creeks Rambling River water table. During the year volunteers supported all efforts of Prescott Creeks. They contributed 2,637 hours of unskilled labor valued at $99,528.
