About
Recidiviz helps criminal justice data help people. We build tech that reduces the number of people in prison and on supervision, increases re-entry success, and makes communities safer. Agency staff, elected officials, and communities need real-time data to improve the criminal justice system. But today, most criminal justice data lives in scattered databases, which aren’t actionable to decision-makers. At Recidiviz, we stitch together disconnected databases to create a standardized data layer. Then we use that new layer to power our data tools, which save time and help criminal justice leaders better support people behind bars and on community supervision. We believe in learning from those who have experienced the system firsthand. That’s why we design our tools in partnership with agency staff and current and formerly incarcerated people. For example, our tools help parole officers uncover who on their caseload needs mental health support, a steady job, or reliable housing. Then we surface opportunities that help people get directed to the support they need to thrive. Our co-founders started Recidiviz as a volunteer project at Google to uncover how technology could standardize criminal justice data and improve the system nationwide. In 2018, Recidiviz became a standalone non-profit. Today, we continue to drive better outcomes for people impacted by the criminal justice system.
