Mission

The San Diego Police Foundation proudly supports America’s finest police department by cultivating positive community engagement and helping fund vital equipment and specialized training that ensures peace and safety for all.

About

The San Diego Police Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that began operations in 1998 with the help of then Chief of Police, Jerry Sanders. San Diego Police Department employees are ethically restricted from soliciting gifts despite needing our support. Those who protect and serve San Diego should have the tools necessary to do their jobs safely and with excellence. Responding to this gap between the budget and the need, the Police Foundation was brought into existence. Funded by community contributions, the Police Foundation has provided a wide range of programs, equipment, and services including SafetyNet: Smart Cyber Choices® education to keep kids safe online, outreach to enhance police-community relations, programs to divert youth from gang recruitment, scholarships for rising female police officers, conferences to elevate the professional development of SDPD personnel, police service dogs, lifesaving devices, and officer safety equipment. In 25 years of grant-making, the San Diego Police Foundation has facilitated in-kind gifts and grant awards totaling more than $10 million. These grants represent tangible, measurable, far-reaching public safety assets made possible by support from individuals, organizations, foundations, and corporations.
