About
Chess For Girls is a nonprofit program dedicated to empowering girls through the game of chess. Since 2014, we have been tackling the persistent issue of gender disparity in chess, particularly at higher levels. While it remains a significant challenge in the chess community, we believe that by taking proactive steps, we can pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse chess landscape. We are proud to announce that we will be hosting the 2023 ChessFest for Tri-State Girls in collaboration with Unruly Queens. This event aims to bridge the gender gap in chess by providing a platform for girls to showcase their skills and passion for the game. Statistics have shown that female participation in chess declines significantly as players get older. In fact, only 4.26% of adult members in the 25-64 age range are female, while 85% of female players are under 20. At Chess For Girls, we recognize the importance of fostering early engagement and nurturing talent to address this disparity. We invite everyone to join us in our mission to increase the representation of female players in chess. By expanding the population of female players, we can cultivate a larger talent pool and pave the way for more outstanding female chess players. While this endeavor may take time and dedication, we are confident that, together, we can make a lasting impact. Let us remember that currently, only one out of the top 100 players in the world is female. It is up to us to change this narrative and create a more equitable chess community.
