Mission

LARC offers permanent sanctuary to rescued wolves, wolfdogs, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, skunks, parrots, pigs, horses, and dogs. LARC is also a work therapy program for disabled veterans with war-related trauma which is called our Warriors and Wolves program. These veterans work with similarly traumatized, rescued animals who reside at our sanctuary. The unique relationship that develops is immensely therapeutic for both species. Employment at LARC allows the veterans a transitional period to regain their confidence and learn valuable skills for future permanent employment.

About

In 2018, the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center (LARC) rescued three wolfdogs in Oregon, California and Minnesota each and rescued 29 wolves in Oklahoma. Most of these animals were transported by LARC to other sanctuaries utilizing the transport crates that were built earlier in the year. Several trips were made to Minnesota to try to rescue all of the wolves who would otherwise have been pelted by a wolf fur farm. LARC was able to shut down that wolf fur farm. New enclosures were built to accommodate the wolves that were brought back to LARC to live out their lives. These rescue activities were documented on camera and aired in 2018 as an eight episode docu-series about LARC on Animal Planet called, "Wolves and Warriors." Also in 2018, the film about LARC's WolfGuard program entitled, "The War in Between" had its premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. LARC also engaged in wild wolf protection through its Wolfguard campaign in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana during January and February of 2018.
