About this organization
Mission
We help by reducing psychological and financial stress to our Veterans as they transition back into civilian life and Active Duty/Reservists as they are returning home from deployment. We provide basic home furnishings and necessities for free, resulting in hope and dignity. We will also, at their request, through our animal rescue partners, unite them with a rescued animal so it can be trained to become a companion or emotional support animal through our community partners for free, giving them a sense of purpose and support. We can also refer our Veterans to our Service Dog Partners who provide free ADI Certified and trained PTSD or Guide Dogs for those Veterans in need.
About
Patriots and Paws is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in November of 2011. Patriots and Paws was founded because it was realized that many of our Veterans/Active Military/ Reservists service men and women are in need of additional help in the form of basic home furnishings like a bed, dresser, dining room table and dishes because they have been homeless or have just recently obtained housing. Many of these Veterans and service members have families and children. Through our services we are able to give many of them their dignity back and give them hope. The organization has partnered with over 120 other organizations throughout Southern California that work with Veterans, and together we are helping our Veterans and service members. Because of the generosity of donors, in 2019 the organization served 1114 Veterans, Active Military and Reservists and their families throughout Southern California. The organization has maintained a warehouse for over eight years, has streamlined its processes, and is becoming more efficient in helping those it serves. Patriots and Paws currently has two programs: Provisions for Patriots provides basic home furnishings in a warehouse environment. This is the organizations largest program to date. Paws Partners is a program involving WAGS (Westminster Adoption Group Services) in uniting those the organization serves with a rescued animal that has been spayed or neutered, current on shots and micro-chipped. The organization also partners with 4Paws4Patriots.org and the Veteran Canine Intelligence Academy, which provide training to the Veterans and their animals. These companionship animals are nonjudgmental and love their caregivers unconditionally. Some of those helped by the organization need a purpose and having an animal gives them that purpose. Patriots and Paws sponsors two open house events, one in the spring and one in the fall. The community is invited to come and see firsthand what the organization does. Patriots and Paws also has annual fundraising events which include a golf tournament and car show. The organization does not utilize professional fundraisers for any of its events. Other organizations have held events in its honor. Patriots and Paws volunteers contributed over 11,000 volunteer hours in 2019. All donations go to offset operating expenses. The organizations largest expense is monthly rent, and the next largest is transportation. The remainder of funds pays for payroll of 1.5 employees, insurance, utilities, and fuel and office supply costs. Donor generosity keeps its doors open and allows the organization to continue to serve those who served our country and give us the freedom we have today.
