About

The Junkyard Social Club is a mission-driven organization that hosts camps, classes, and events to achieve our mission – with our cafe and bar promoting togetherness. The year was 2020. Jill, Sharon, Leo and Ryan found themselves bored, full of creative ideas, and with the opportunity to start something new. The four of them had worked on several startup/non-profit museum ideas together since 2017. They felt they knew Boulder’s wants and needs well, but years of planning, documenting and scheming were abruptly halted when the pandemic hit. Driven by the desire to create a Non-Profit, community centric space, (with basically no money) they started collecting junk from local junkyards, equipment from craigslist, and art installations from local artists. After securing a space from an old friend in a former print warehouse, the founders and a team of volunteers started building the cubicle playground, the rainbow stage, and assembling the ultimate rebel’s play space. Initially opening the doors in 2021, the Junkyard specialized in camps, kids classes, and birthday parties. In order to reach the full vision of the space, the team launched a crowdfunding campaign, which saw 402 donors raise over $50k for an interior renovation that added a cafe space and general improvements to the building. Construction was completed in 2022, and the liquor license followed quickly. The Junkyard grand opening was on Pi Day 2023 – and with it came expanded hours, and increased adult swim events. Today the Junkyard is open 6 days-a-week for general admission and play, with camps and classes for the kiddos, and special events for families and adults every week.
