About this organization
Mission
The mission of Avda (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) is to end family violence by advocating for the safety and self-determination of victims, promoting accountability for abusers and fostering a community response to abuse.
About
Legal Advocacy Program (LAP) 2018 Accomplishments Avda's legal advocacy program continues to be the primary source of free legal representation for low and moderate-income victims of family violence pending in Harris County and Fort Bend County courts. Avda's legal team served 1,464 survivors through the legal process, and helped 96% of legal clients feel safer because of Avda services. $2.1 million was awarded to survivors through Avda representation. Its eight attorney/paralegal teams provided highly successful representation for victims in matters of family law, in addition to holistic services to increase safety and self-sufficiency. In addition to legal representation with positive court outcomes, many clients received emergency financial assistance, trauma counseling, the opportunity to attend Camp Carefree (held specifically for Avda clients and their children in June 2018 at Camp Aranzazu in Rockport), and additional supportive services and referral.
