To build sustainable recreation-based communities through stewardship, job creation and world class events while providing quality outdoor experiences through trail construction and maintenance in the Lost Sierra.

Primary goal is to sustain long-term recreational trail use throughout the downieville district of the tahoe national forest and the plumas national forest. the charity attains this goal by maintaining and enhancing the trails in these areas. work has been done restoring and rehabilitating historic trails as well as creation of new trails. because of inadequate forest service resources the charity through volunteers fills the void. the organization helps to reduce trail erosion, minimize human impact in forest, fosters historic preservation, continued environmental preservation, and works toward continued access to these trails.

  • Improved, rehabilitated, and maintained over 800 miles of various shared use trails in the northern sierra nevada mountains in sierra,tahoe and plumas counties. maintains and enhances over hundred trails including 10-25 miles of newly constructed trails each year through employed and volunteer workers (over 72,000 hours of volunteer time since inception). recently some newer goals have been to rehabilitate historic trails and creating recreational trail networks. another activity is trail ride tours including shuttles to various trail heads and seasonal opening of an information sales shop to promote mission of sbts. plus they have created learning landscape trails for student outdoor education in plumas and sierra county schools.
