Mission

The Long Now Foundation fosters long-term thinking and responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years. It is designed to be the seed for a very long-term cultural institution. Originally developed around The Clock of the Long Now—a monument-scale clock intended to last for 10,000 years—The Long Now Foundation also supports other projects and programs with a focus on the very long-term, including The Rosetta Project, the Seminars About Long-Term Thinking, Revive & Restore, Long Bets, and PanLex. In addition, the foundation operates a unique space in the Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture in San Francisco, California called The Interval—it is part library, part café, and part museum. Open to the public seven days a week, The Interval encourages reflection and conversation about long-term thinking and responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years.
