THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES A NEIGHBORHOOD FAMILY CENTER AND SPONSORS PROGRAMS AND EVENTS TO PROVIDE PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SPIRITUAL, AND MORAL SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES AND TO STRENGTHEN THE NEIGHBORHOOOD. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED PRIMARILY TO INDIVIDUALS RESIDING IN AND AROUND THE CITY OF TARPON SPRINGS IN PINELLAS COUNTY, FLORIDA. PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS - UNION ACADEMY FAMILY CENTER/CAP HAS HAD SECURITY CAMERAS UPGRADED, ADDITIONAL FENCING INSTALLED, AND ADDITIONAL LED LIGHTING INSTALLED AROUND THE FACILITY TO BETTER SAFEGUARD THE SITE AND THE CHILDREN WHO ATTEND. - FACILITY UPGRADES INCLUDED PARKING LOT RESURFACING, A NEW CONCRETE PLAY SPACE FOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES, A MOUNTED LCD PROJECTOR AND SCREEN FOR PRESENTATIONS, AND A SMARTBOARD FOR INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM. - A 28-PASSENGER MINI-BUS WAS PURCHASED TO TRANSPORT PARTICIPANTS TO VARIOUS PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES, - PARENT MEETINGS (2ND MONDAY OF EACH MONTH) TO HELP PARENTS ADVOCATE FOR THEIR CHILDREN AND BECOME MORE ENGAGED WITH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM, BILINGUAL INTERPRETERS ARE PRESENT AT EACH PARENT MEETING AND ON SITE ONCE A WEEK. PARENTS WITH PERFECT ATTENDANCE WERE AWARDED A CERTIFICATE. - A SUMMER CAREER INSTITUTE AT ST. PETERSBURG COLLEGE WAS REESTABLISHED FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO EXPLORE CAREERS AND GAIN JOB SKILLS TRAINING. - STEM CLASSES AND COOKING CLASSES WERE TAUGHT TO STUDENTS IN SUMMER CAMP. - THE ACADEMIC ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (AEP) PARTICIPANTS/CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND STAFF PARTICIPATED IN THE CITY OF TARPON SPRINGS CHRISTMAS PARADE AND THE MLK JR. PARADE - HONOR ROLL STUDENTS WERE RECOGNIZED AND CELEBRATED FOR THEIR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. OVER 30 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED AND ATTENDED A FIELD TRIP. - CAP ORATORICAL CONTEST, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ST. PETERSBURG COLLEGE TARPON SPRINGS CAMPUS, HAD 20 PARTICIPANTS TO DELIVER SPEECHES WHICH WERE JUDGED BY SIX (6) CITIZENS FROM VARIOUS PINELLAS COUNTY COMMUNITIES AND AGENCIES. OFFICES REPRESENTED WERE SENATOR JACK LATVALA'S OFFICE, PINELLAS COUNTY SCHOOLS, AND ST. PETERSBURG COLLEGE PROFESSORS. OVER 90 ATTENDEES. - VITA (VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE) PREPARED 185 TAX RETURNS AND PROVIDED TAX COUNSELING WHERE APPLICABLE - BACK TO SCHOOL BASH HELD IN AUGUST TO PROVIDE FREE BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY. - INTERGENERATIONAL LUNCHEON WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 60 CITIZENS IN THE COMMUNITY. YOUTH SERVED AND ENJOYED INTERACTIVE GAMES IWTH ATTENDEES. - AWARDS NIGHT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TARPON SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL, WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 500 STUDENTS, PARENTS, FAMILIES, BOARD MEMBERS, PRINCIPALS, STAFF, AND OTHER COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS. -VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DINNER TO RECOGNIZE ADULT AND YOUTH VOLUNTEERS. - HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR - COLLABORATING WITH FLORIDA HOSPITAL NORTH PINELLAS AND THE GREATER FEDERATED WOMAN'S GOLF CLUB (GFWC) OF TARPON SPRINGS - WELLNESS MINISTRIES AND VOLUNTEERS, MDICAL STUDNETS, HEALTHCARE COMPANIES,DOCTORS, DENTISTS, AND AGENCIES/VENDORS DISSEMINATED INFORMATION AND PERFORED SCREENINGS FOR ATTENDEES TO CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON THEIR HEALTH. - LOCAL NEWSPAPERS PUBLISHED PROGRAMS AND EVENTS OFFERED FOR YOUTH, CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AT CAP MEDIA SOURCES WORK WITH AGENCY FOR BEST PRESS RELEASE PRESENTATION, AND PINELLAS COUNTY SCHOOL'S MEDIA DEPARTMENT POST EVENTS ON THEIR WEBSITE.
