YMCA AQUATICS - YMCA AQUATICS PROGRAMS ARE PART OF THE YMCA'S OVERALL GOAL OF BUILDING HEALTHY SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING SPECIFIC SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY SKILLS, THEY PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH THROUGH REGULAR EXERCISE THEY ALSO PROMOTE TEAMWORK, SELF-CONFIDENCE AND LEADERSHIP. THESE PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED AT FEES AFFORDABLE TO THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE WITH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE FULL FEE. OUR AQUATICS PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO PREVENT DEATHS AND WATER RELATED INJURIES. LAST YEAR, WE PROVIDED AQUATICS PROGRAMS FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, INFANTS THROUGH SENIORS. APPROXIMATELY 715 CHILDREN AND 30 ADULTS TOOK SWIM LESSONS AT THE YMCA, INCLUDING CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. WE CATERED TO THE NEEDS OF SENIORS IN THE POOL WITH WATER FITNESS CLASSES AND MASTER SWIM PROGRAM. TEENS LEARNED LIFEGUARDING SKILLS IN OUR LIFE GUARDING CLASSES, AND 100 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE CPR AND FIRST AID CLASSES LEARNING VALUABLE LIFESAVING SKILLS. OVER 300 CHILDREN WERE ALSO SERVED WITH MINIMAL-COST SWIM LESSONS THROUGH "Y" SPLASH EVENT IN INDIANTOWN AND STUART. THE YMCA IN INDIANTOWN ALSO HOSTS OPEN SWIM DAYS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE COMMUNITY TO IMPROVE THEIR SWIM ABILITIES. THE YMCA BRANCH IN INDIANTOWN HAS THE ONLY PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL IN THE SURROUNDING AREA, AS A RESULT, MANY MEMBERS OF THIS LOW-INCOME COMMUNITY HAVE HAD VERY LITTLE EXPOSURE TO WATER. OVER 650 INDIANTOWN RESIDENTS BENEFITED FROM COMMUNITY SWIM DAY AND TEEN SWIM EVENTS HELD DURING THE SUMMERS. ADDITIONALLY, THE INDIANTOWN YMCA PROVIDED 185 FAMILIES WITH FREE SWIM LESSONS AND WATER SAFETY CLASSES DURING THE 10 WEEK SUMMER SEASON. FAMILIES FROM EAST COAST MIGRANT, HOPE RURAL SCHOOL OF INDIANTOWN, AND BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF MARTIN COUNTY.
