THE DAVID TOMS FOUNDATION PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR AT-RISK BOYS AND GIRLS. THE FOUNDATION HAS BUILT A STATE-OF-THE ART GOLF PRACTICE AND YOUTH ACADEMY. THE DAVID TOMS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION HAS BUILT A STATE-OF-THE-ART GOLF PRACTICE FACILITY AND YOUTH ACADEMY. IT IS A 60-ACRE GOLF ACADEMY. THE PROGRAM IS KNOWN AS THE "DAVID TOMS ACADEMY OR "265". THE ACADEMY IS AFFILIATED WITH THE FIRST TEE OF NORTHWEST LOUISIANA AND WORKS WITH CHILDREN FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS. EACH WEEK, THE ACADEMY HOST TEENAGE BOYS AND GIRLS FROM THE COUNCIL ON ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG ABUSE (CADA) PROGRAM. THESE TEENS ARE REWARDED WITH A TRIP TO THE ACADEMY IF THEY HAVE GOOD BEHAVIOR DURING THE WEEK. ACCORDING TO CADA ADMINISTRATORS, THE WEEKLY VISIT TO THE ACADEMY IS THE HIGHLIGHT AND INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK. WHEN THESE YOUTH ARE AT THE ACADEMY, THEY ARE PROVIDED WITH GOLF CLUBS, GOLF BALLS, GOLF INSTRUCTIONS AND DRINKS.THE ACADEMY HOSTS EVERY MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TEAM FROM CADDO PARISH, LA AND BOSSIER PARISH LA. ANYONE WHO IS ON A MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TEAM HAS COMPLIMENTARY ACCESS TO THE ACADEMY.THROUGHOUT JUNE AND JULY, THE ACADEMY HELD A VARIETY OF SUMMER CAMPS. MANY SCHOLARSHIPS WERE GIVEN TO STUDENTS FROM BACKGROUNDS THAT MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO AFFORD GOLF INSTRUCTIONS.THE FIRST TEE OF NW LOUISIANA USES THE ACADEMY, OUR FACILITY AND STAFF TO CONDUCT CLINICS AND TEACH THE "CORE VALUES" OF THE PROGRAM."SCHOLARSHIPS" ARE GRANTED TO SELECTED YOUTH BASED ON GRADES, FINANCIAL NEED AND GOLF ABILITY.
