About this organization
Mission
The mission of Southern Dharma Retreat Center (SDRC) is to provide meditation retreats, to make available teachings and practices from Buddhist and related traditions, and to serve as a resource for groups, teachers, and practitioners in the Southeast.
About
Southern Dharma Retreat Center is a place of refuge offering education, meditation, contemplation and silence facilitated by teachers of varying traditions. Our center is nestled in the forest, creating an atmosphere supportive of quiet reflection where one can access and nurture a sense of peace and uncover the truth within the heart. While our purpose has been to offer and promote contemplative programming, with the goal of providing a comfortable gathering place, removed from the distractions of everyday life, we began to take the teachings off the mountain, to the students in 2018. During the year, the center conducted 26 residential meditation retreats varying in length from 2 - 13 nights, for a total of 128 retreat-nights. The retreats were conducted by 30 teachers and attended by 631 participants. Teachers primarily represent a variety of Buddhist traditions, but also include other offerings. Attendees taking advantage of scholarship offerings totaled 26, or approximately 4% of attendees.
