OUR PROGRAMS FOCUS ON PERSONAL EXPRESSION AND FOSTERING MEDIA LITERACY. MIRRORING THE EXPLOSION OF YOUTH MEDIA NATIONALLY, OUR WORKSHOPS INCLUDE DOCUMENATARY, ANIMATION, NARRATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL FILM, MUSIC VIDEO, 3D VISUAL EFFECTS AND VIRTUAL REALITY FILMMAKING. WE CONDUCT ON SITE "KEEP IT REEL" FILMMAKING WORKSHOPS LOCATED AT WESTHAVEN, JACK JOUETT MIDDLE SCHOOL, SOUTHWOOD BOYS & GIRLS CLUB AND GREENSTONE ON 5TH, TO NAME A FEW. IN FY'18 WE TAUGHT 130 WORKSHOPS TO 1,787 STUDENTS FROM 86 SCHOOLS; WORKED WITH 35 DIFFERENT LOCAL ARTISTS TO TEACH IN 218 GUEST TEACHING SLOTS; PARTNERED WITH 59 LOCAL NONPROFITS AND SCHOOLS; SHOWED STUDENT WORK TO APPROXIMATELY 62,161 LIVE AUDIENCE MEMBERS, WITH 761,738 CUMULATIVE ONLINE VIEWS OF STUDENT WORK TO DATE; HAD STUDENT FILMS ACCEPTED TO 21 FILM FESTIVALS, WINNING MAJOR AWARDS INCLUDING BEST STUDENT PROGRAM AT NEW YORK FESTIVAL'S WORLD'S BEST TV & FILMS, THE HOT SHOT WINNER AT SUN VALLEY AND THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL FILM AT PROGENY FILM FESTIVAL; AND PROVIDED 1,396 SCHOLARSHIPS, ALLOWING 78 PERCENT OF STUDENTS TO ATTEND AT FREE OR REDUCED COST. IN ADDITION, 5,681 PEOPLE VISITED THE VINEGAR HILL THEATRE TO SEE OVER 200 INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTARY, NARRATIVE, AND ANIMATED FILMS, MANY CREATED BY OUR STUDENT FILMMAKERS.
