THE AMERICAN GOLD STAR MOTHERS, INC. PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THOSE LOVED ONES WHOSE LIVES WERE SACRIFICED IN WAR AND TO EXTEND NEEDFUL ASSISTANCE TO ALL MEMBERS AND, WHEN POSSIBLE, THEIR DESCENDANTS. AMERICAN GOLD STAR MOTHERS, INC. INITIATED A FEW CHANGES TO MOVE OUR ORGANIZATION FORWARD INTO THE 21ST CENTURY. AMERICAN GOLD STAR MOTHERS, INC. CONTINUES WORKING WITH THE NATIONAL MILITARY FAMILY BEREAVEMENT STUDY AND PARTNERED WITH THE VIETNAM WAR COMMEMORATION 5OTH ANNIVERSARY. OUR MEMBERS CONTINUE VOLUNTEERING IN VA HOSPITALS AND PERFORMING COMMUNITY SERVICE. EVERY YEAR WE PARTICIPATE IN CEREMONIES AT ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY FOR GOLD STAR MOTHERS SUNDAY, VETERANS DAY, AND MEMORIAL DAY. WE PLACE A WREATH AT THE VIETNAM WALL AND ATTEND THE CANDLELIGHT VIGIL FOR GOLD STAR MOTHERS SUNDAY, PLACE WREATHS AT THE TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN FOR VETERANS DAY AND MEMORIAL DAY. SOME OF THE DONATIONS TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ARE WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA, VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL FUND AND JAMES PARKE SCHOLARSHIP FUND. OUR CONVENTION WAS A SUCCESS AND RAISED A NICE SUM OF MONEY TO BE USED TO SUPPORT VARIOUS VETERANS ORGANIZATIONS. NEW ITEMS WERE ADDED TO OUR STORE WHICH IS CALLED MOTHERS CUPBOARD AND WERE SHOWCASED AT OUR NATIONAL CONVENTION. VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS REPRESENTED AT THE CONVENTION WERE SURVIVOR OUTREACH SERVICES, VIETNAM WAR COMMEMORATION, MAKE THE CONNECTION, WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA, HONOR AND REMEMBER, AND AN AUTHOR WHO WROTE A BOOK ABOUT GOLD STAR MOTHERS THAT SHARED THEIR STORIES FROM THE VIETNAM WAR.
