STOCKS IN THE FUTURE'S (SIF) THREE-YEAR CURRICULUM DESIGNED BY JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY TEACHES FINANCIAL FUNDAMENTALS TO UNDERPERFORMING YOUNGSTERS AND OFFERS INCENTIVES FOR IMPROVED SCHOOL PERFORMANCES.

THIS NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION IS A PROGRAM THAT TEACHES MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FINANCIAL LIFE SKILLS AND IMPROVES THEIR INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION. THE 3-YEAR PROGRAM CURRICULUM, DEVELOPED UNDER JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY, INTRODUCES BUSINESS CONCEPTS AND THE STOCK MARKET, REASONS FOR TAKING A COMPANY PUBLIC AND WAYS TO COMPARE STOCK PERFORMANCES. AS A STUDENT LEARNS, THEY EARN MONEY (UP TO 80 "STOCKS IN THE FUTURE" DOLLARS PER YEAR) BY ATTENDING SCHOOL REGULARLY AND IMPROVING GRADES. STUDENTS USE THEIR EARNINGS TO PURCHASE PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANY STOCKS WHICH BECOME THEIRS UPON GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND TURNING EIGHTEEN. DURING THE YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2013, STOCKS IN THE FUTURE SERVED 16 SCHOOLS REPRESENTING MORE THAN 940 STUDENTS. CURRENTLY, THE ORGANIZATION'S GOAL IS TO INCREASE SCHOOL PARTICIPATION IN THE CORE PROGRAM, FORMALLY EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CORE PROGRAM AND SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPATING STUDENTS WHO GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL AND ARE THUS ELIGIBLE TO TRANSFER THEIR PROGRAM PORTFOLIO TO THEIR PERSONAL OWNERSHIP. FOR A SCHOOL TO QUALIFY FOR PARTICIPATION WITH THE ORGANIZATION, THE STUDENT POPULATION OF THE SCHOOL SHALL BE COMPOSED OF NO LESS THAN 50% OF FREE OR REDUCED-PRICE MEAL ELIGIBLE STUDENTS.
