About this organization
Mission
The mission of the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA) is to share stories that inspire. We educate the public about the many contributions of African Americans by sharing the full range of history and culture. This is done by collecting, preserving, and interpreting historical and cultural artifacts; presenting art and cultural work from nationally traveling exhibitions and local artists; hosting community conversations about history, art, culture and current events; offering children’s programming that boosts imagination and cultural experiences; and creating a community gathering place that is welcoming and inspirational for local residents and visitors alike.
