THE LEADING NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR LATINO(A) WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. LCLAA WAS BORN IN 1972 OUT OF THE NEED TO EDUCATE, ORGANIZE AND MOBILIZE LATINOS IN THE LABOR MOVEMENT AND HAS EXPANDED ITS INFLUENCE TO ORGANIZE LATINOS IN AN EFFORT TO IMPACT WORKERS' RIGHTS AND THEIR INFLUENCE IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS. LCLAA REPRESENTS THE INTEREST OF MORE THAN 2 MILLION LATINO WORKERS IN THE AMERICAN FEDERATION OF LABOR-CONGRESS OF INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATIONS (AFL-CIO), THE CHANGE TO WIN FEDERATION, INDEPENDENT UNIONS AND ALL ITS MEMBERSHIP.

REGIONAL CONFERENCE - LCLAA CREATED A REGIONAL CONFERENCE SERIES TO NOT ONLY ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES AND ISSUES AFFECTING THE LATINO COMMUNITY, BUT ALSO TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THE TRAINING NECESSARY TO ORGANIZE COMMUNITIES AROUND THOSE ISSUES IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO ENACT A MORE PROGRESSIVE AGENDA - ONE WHERE LATINO AND LABOR ISSUES ARE A PRIORITY. THE EVENTS WERE HELD IN MIAMI, FL IN JUNE AND IN LOS ANGELES, CA IN NOVEMBER. BOTH EVENTS WERE FREE FOR ATTENDEES.IN 2018, LCLAA HAD THEIR ONCE-EVERY-FOUR-YEARS CONVENTION INSTEAD OF THE REGIONAL CONFERENCE. LCLAA'S NATIONAL MEMBERSHIPCONVENTION IS A SPACE WHERE LCLAA MEMBERS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY GATHER TO STRATEGICALLY WORK ON THE PRIORITIES OF LATINO AND IMMIGRANT WORKERS IN THE NATION. TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDE PROTECTING WORKERS RIGHTS, PUBLIC EDUCATION, IMMIGRATION, ORGANIZING AND CIVIC PARTICIPATION. IN 2018, LCLAA INCLUDED AN ADVOCACY EFFORT TO SUPPORT THE PEOPLE IN PUERTO RICO, WE CREATED A SPACE IN OUR CONVENTION PROGRAM FOR OUR MEMBERS TO ENGAGE IN RELIEF EFFORTS IN COMMUNITIES THAT REMAIN AFFECTED BY HURRICANE MARIA. ADDITIONALLY, EVERY 4 YEARS NATIONAL LCLAA HOLDS BOARD ELECTIONS DURING THE CONVENTION. 2018 WAS AN ELECTION YEAR.
