The mission of Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research is to provide professional, compassionate rehabilitation to native injured and orphaned wild birds and contaminated wildlife, and to promote their stewardship through education and humane research.

FY 2019 Bird Preservation & Protection Programs: BIRD CARE The clinic admitted 3371 birds between these dates. Over 119 different neotropical species which included over 1,800 individuals. Some of the specialty birds that the clinic admitted were: 75 bald eagles, 11 common loons, 15 peregrine falcons, 63 Great-horned owls, and 48 Great blue herons. The number one species represented in the clinic was the American robin making up 17% of our caseload (267 individuals). The 3 most represented taxonomic groups admitted to the center were songbirds at 65% (2,177 individuals), raptors at 16% (551 individuals) and waterfowl at 10% (338 individuals). The clinic released over 920 individuals during the above time period with a survival rate after the first 24 hours of 67.13%. Out of those released over 293 orphans were reunited with their parents or placed in a foster family (non-biological). This includes raptors, song birds, waterfowl and wading birds. Some of the causes of injury that the clinic sees is: attack by cat ( 208 individuals), hit by vehicle (373 individuals), 53 individuals gunshot victims, contamination (20 individuals) and West Nile Virus (62 individuals). The summer is the busiest time of year. During the summer the clinic admitted 2,213 hatch year birds and at its height admitted 43 birds in one day. The three most common cities that we receive admissions from are Wilmington at 28% (422 individuals), Newark at 30% (440 individuals) and New Castle at 7% (108 individuals).
