GReAT incorporates the finest elements of academic medicine: the clinical evaluation, care, and counseling of persons and families with genetic disorders of the visual system, integration of basic research to identify the underlying gene-based causes of visual impairments, the exploration and integration of their underlying biochemistry and physiology, and the collaborative exploration of potential managements and interventions for these disorders with other disciplines nationally. GReAT supports the Fellowship Program for the Study of Genetic Eye Disorders is dedicated to the advancement of both clinical and basic genetics for heritable disorders of vision, especially in children and adolescents.
