Mission

About

City Surf Project provides surf instruction and leadership training for youth in San Francisco who may not otherwise have the opportunities to experience swimming lessons, ocean recreation, stewardship activities, and environmental education. In 2018, CSP partnered with 8 different public schools to teach surfing PE classes. In groups of 10-15, students go to the pool for swim lessons, on the bay at Crissy Field to paddle, and to the beach for surfing lessons. In 2018, CSP went on 138 outings giving students the opportunity to attend over 90 hours of surfing throughout the year. The majority of participants in these schools have little to no prior exposure to the ocean for many, these outings represent opportunities to try and accomplish things they never thought possible, like surfing a cold beach in San Francisco. In 2018, roughly 550 youth participated in CSP's programs, 150 of these youth were new to the sport.
