In 2018-2019 Arkansas duck, deer, dove, turkey and hog hunting and fishing season, Darby's Warrior Support hosted over 140 combat-injured Special Operations military personnel (including children on select events) to free, all-inclusive, Arkansas hunting and fishing events. All the necessary equipment, meals and lodging for the four day events was supplied by DWS - including professional level guide services. DWS reimbursed ground travel expenses, and the only cost to the Soldiers was the price of a hunting or fishing license (no more than $132). A number of private hunting clubs and lodge owners assisted by hosting DWS guests over the course of the year. Continued at Schedule O.DWS utilized two separate operating bases approximately 50 miles apart throughout the hunting season to host the military personnel. Civilian volunteers, including DWS board members, donated an estimated 5,000 hours of labor to prepare for, operate and safely host the Soldiers. Other volunteers provided labor to prepare hunting blinds and equipment prior to the seasons opening. National outdoor industry corporations and state/local businesses provided each individual Soldier with "take home" gifts of hunting gear/clothing and provided all necessary clothing, shotguns, shotgun shells, and waders used during the hunts. Additionally, spouses of the guests received a small bag of items to acknowledge their sacrifice as the military spouse. DWS hosted a dinner for approximately 25 local supporters to provide an update on the program's success and the way ahead. With the support from the local community, it remains a critical function to keep all informed and involved.
