Mission

To improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and promote healthy lifestyles by educating drivers, walkers, bicyclists and law enforcement officers on current traffic laws and fostering an environment of civility and respect for shared use of the roads.

About

Conducted Best Foot Forward (BFF) pedestrian safety program on behalf of coalition partners in Orange and Osceola counties and the cities of Orlando, St. Cloud, and Kissimmee with the goal to reduce pedestrian and driver conflicts by changing drivers' behavior by measuring drivers' compliance with Florida's driver yield law at marked and unmarked crosswalks. BFF collected data on driver yielding behavior at 45 crosswalks, organized 3 high visibility enforcement operations at more than 15 crosswalks for five law enforcement offices, handed out more than 375 warnings and citations to drivers, and educated local residents at more than 35 events. Since BFF launched in 2012, a combination of enforcement, engineering changes and education has increased driver yield rates from 12% to 65% on roads 35 mph and lower and from 1.2% to 35% on roads 40 mph and higher.
