The CTE & Industry SummitThe CTE & Industry Summit, Sponsored by Maps Credit Union serves as a platform to promote interaction between Students, Educators, and Industry. In February 2017, the one day event was a local and by invite only. In 2018, the event expended to a 3 day summit with an Oregon wide invite and in 2019, it expanded to a 3 day summit with regional invite. This year the Summit welcomed over 200 Career Technical educators, over 150 students in CTE programs, and an additional 250+ that included honored guests, administrators, faculty, counselors, advisors, state agencies, business, industry, sponsors, volunteers and community-based organization leaders. Our partners: Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, Keizer Chamber of Commerce, Salem Keizer Public Schools, Incite, Oregon Department of Education, & Chemeketa Community College.Save the date: 3/10 & 3/11/20 at the Salem Convention Center.Career ConnectionsHigh school students get the chance to practice their interviewing skills with area employers in this unique event.This years highlights:Over 1,200 high school students participated in mock interviews, increase of over 200 students compared to last year.300 employers/volunteers conducted interviews.This year we extended the invitation to include our Private High Schools and Home school students. CTE Professional of the MonthNew this year was the addition of the CTE (Career Technical Education) Student Professional of the Month. Students were nominated by their teachers who met and demonstrated no less than 10-12 professional skills within their CTE Class on a consistent basis. Students are recognized and celebrated with a certificate with the demonstrated skills listed and a Visa gift card to help allow them to purchase a new tool, uniform, or any other resource to elevate their skills. An average of 42 students across 42 different CTE programs in the Salem Keizer School District were recognized each month January June. This next school year will be an increase to 50+ students and programs monthly.
