Programmatically, HAFA focuses its work in four areas: land accesswe manage a 155 acre farm in Dakota County where Hmong families sublease 510 acre parcels. We also train and model sustainable growing methods, working with farmers to explore innovative ways to own and access land long-term; business developmentwe train our farmers and their children on farm financials, business writing, and help them access microloans; research and trainingwe train our farmers on topics ranging from soil health to break-even analysis, and run multi-year research projects on topics like cover crops and the effects of climate change on pest migration; and alternative marketswe run a food hub where we train our farmers on food safety and good agricultural practices (GAP), and aggregate their produce for sale to other markets (besides the farmers markets).
