About this organization
Mission
Girls Going Global (GGG) empowers African American and other underrepresented girls to reach beyond their current circumstances and gives them the tools to explore the world-at-large and become global citizens.
About
Girls Going Global is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls through travel and cultural exchange. We believe by creating global leadership and civic engagement experiences girls will be better prepared to create change in their communities and the world. More than anything, Girls Going Global is a pipeline program to greater opportunities. Girls who participate in our program will not only develop a global perspective but also provide them with guidance and exposure to various college and career paths such as study abroad, Peace Corp service, and Foreign Service. GGG has impacted over 500 high school girls throughout the U.S. and traveled with over 150 girls to Canada, Costa Rica, Belize, Peru, and Italy. Using the framework of the 10 Core Competencies for Global Education, developed by the World Affairs Council, GGG invites girls on a 1-week trip of service, leadership, and fun to international locations. Prior to the trip, GGG girls participate in a 6-month training to develop the 10 core competencies, helping them prepare for their service project abroad. The girls develop their leadership skills throughout the program, and beyond, as junior counselors and mentors on future trips and within the alumnae network.
