About this organization
Mission
The mission of Young Voices is to ensure youth have a voice in the decisions that impact their lives, so we have to 'walk the talk' in our own organization. Therefore, our board of directors is dominated by youth who participate in our training. The youth work alongside dedicated adult professionals to guide the organization and sustain its work, serving as committee chairs and raising funds for Young Voices. Their participation on the board is yet another opportunity for them to build advanced leadership skills.
About
The organization works with young individuals to guide them to serve in the Rhode Island committees to have a voice, to master the skills needed to understand issues, think strategically, speak out and assume roles of leadership. The organization provides advanced leadership training to more than 180 youth a year. Through this leadership training, youth gain important skills in public speaking, networking, policy analysis, critical thinking, and the ability to relate effectively with high-level leaders. Young Voices also gives youth the rare opportunity to practice these skills in real life, through working to improve their schools at the local, district, and state level.
