Mission

DownCity Design (DCD) is a non-profit community design organization dedicated to helping people design solutions for their communities. Our goal is to improve the city of Providence and other core cities in RI by inviting residents to imagine and create better futures, using the tools of design. Our free design education programs help people become change-makers by inviting them to create structures, graphics, and products that respond creatively to challenges and opportunities in their communities, making the city a better place to live, work, and learn.

About

In 2018/2019 DownCity Design served over 350 youth through our free in-school, after school, and summer design education programs in which young people designed and built new structures for public spaces. Students created 5 new amenities for community clients including Providence Public Schools, United Way of RI, Dorcas International Institute, and Audubon Society of RI. Our programs help to develop students' critical thinking, creative problem solving, and STEAM skills, all of which have been deemed crucial skills for an effective 21st century workforce.
