COFHED'S MISSION IS TO PARTNER WITH MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES IN THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHERN HAITI TO ASSIST THEM IN DISCOVERING, CREATING, AND REALIZING THEIR OWN VISION OF SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR LASTING TRANSFORMATION.

HEALTHCOMMUNITY NURSES OF LOUGOU AND RAYMOND WORKED HARD TO REDUCE THE PREVALENCE OF SKIN INFECTIONS IN CHILDREN. 159 LOUGOU KIDS WERE TREATED FOR VARIOUS SKIN INFECTIONS, OF WHOM 146 ARE COMPLETELY HEALED. THIRTEEN (13) ARE STILL RECOVERING. IN LOUGOU:THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, A TOTAL OF 578 PEOPLE WERE SEEN BY A HEALTH PROVIDER AT THE LOUGOU CLINIC. 326 CHILDREN (AGES 0-8) WERE ASSESSED FOR NUTRITIONAL ASSESSMENT AND HEALTH SCREENING. TWENTY-ONE (21) OF THOSE ASSESSED WERE UNDERWEIGHT AND AT RISK FOR MALNUTRITION; ONE (1) WITH MODERATE AND ONE (1) WITH SEVERE MALNUTRITION. 15 CHILDREN (0-3) YEARS OLD RECEIVED VACCINATION AND KEPT UP WITH THEIR SCHEDULE. 11 WOMEN FOLLOWED AT THE CLINIC FOR PRENATAL AND HAD NORMAL DELIVERIES WITH HEALTHY NEWBORNS. 79 WOMEN ARE USING CONTRACEPTION AND FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES. IN RAYMOND: 129 CHILDREN WERE WEIGHED AND EVALUATED FOR NUTRITION. 19 OF THEM WERE SLIGHTLY UNDER WEIGHT BUT NOT IN A STATE OF MALNUTRITION. 5 CHILDREN SUFFERED FROM A MODERATE FORM OF MALNUTRITION; 4 OF THEM RECUPERATED, 1 AS A NEW CASE IN THE SAME CONDITION. 140 CHILDREN RECEIVED DEWORMING MEDICATION (ALBENDAZOL) TWICE DURING THE YEAR. 88 CHILDREN, AGES 2 - 8, RECEIVED 1 TO 3 DOSES OF VITAMIN A FOR THE YEAR. 54 SCHOOL CHILDREN (NOT ENROLLED IN THE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM) WERE SEEN AND EVALUATED BY THE COMMUNITY NURSE. 52 KIDS RECEIVED TREATMENT FOR SKIN INFECTIONS, OF WHOM 43 ARE COMPLETELY HEALED. NINE (9) OF THEM ARE STILL RECOVERING.
