Kids n kinship is a preventative mentoring program in Dakota County for youth ages 5-16 who are in need of a positive adult role model.

About

As of December 31, 2018, the youth in our program 32% are caucasian, 28% are multi-racial/other, 24% are african american, 7% are hispanic, 9% are other. In 2018, the program served 148 youth. 85 were matched and 63 were on the wait list. For the outcomes that we track, the following results point to the effectiveness of our model of mentoring: 1. 100% of the youth are reducing their experience of isolation through consistent visits with their volunteer with whom they are learning new skills, physical activities and hobbies. 2. 100% of the youth have established a positive relationship with their adult mentor. 3. 95% reported no serious incidences or behavior during the time they were matched with a mentor or a reduction of risky behavior. 4. 87% of youth maintained their decision-making skills, and 95% maintained their conflict resolution skills.
