Mission

Our mission statement is 'Knowledge plus character pave the road to college and beyond.' This belief, based on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s charge that 'Intelligence plus character--that is the goal of true education,' informs everything from daily classroom interactions between teachers and scholars, to administrative decisions about curriculum and programming. In 1997, Milwaukee College Prep opened as a rigorous K4-4th grade school in a city that sorely needed high performing schools. Today, responding to the continued urgent need for uncompromising schools, we have grown to a four-campus network with schools deliberately situated in Milwaukee's most under-served neighborhoods, educating nearly 2,000 children. While we have a few scholars who live outside Milwaukee, the vast majority represent virtually every zip code within the city of Milwaukee, pulling primarily from Milwaukee's poorest zip codes. 98% are African-American, and 83% are eligible to receive free or reduced lunch, a commonly used measure of economic hardship.
