About this organization
Mission
Legacy's mission is to secure for current and future generations a land base for nature, agriculture, fresh water and recreation in Washtenaw and Jackson Counties and beyond.
About
During fiscal year 2018-2019 Legacy Land Conservancy protected an additional 268 acres of farmland and natural areas through 5 conservation easements and acquired a new 25 acre nature preserve; bringing our total over a 48-year history to more than 9,000 acres of land protected. In total we hold 3,714 acres in conservation easements within 85 parcels and have protected, both solely and in partnerships, 9,350 acres through 141 projects. Protecting these lands safeguards access to clean water for drinking and recreation, conserves natural spaces to support public recreation, protects wildlife habitat, and supports the continued vitality of our local working farms. It is important that we continue to increase the pace of conservation in order to secure a land base for future generations and enhance our region's quality of place.
