Mission

The mission of Coffee House Press is to publish exciting, vital and enduring authors of our time; to delight and inspire readers; to contribute to the cultural life of our community; and to enrich our literary heritage. By building on the best traditions of publishing and the book arts, we produce books that celebrate imagination, innovation in the craft of writing and the many authentic voices of the American experience.

About

COFFEE HOUSE PRESS HAS ONE PROGRAM SERVICE: THE PUBLICATION OF BOOKS THAT FULFILL OUR MISSION. IN FISCAL YEAR 2019, THE PROGRAM PUBLISHED 18 BOOKS, 6 NOVELS, 1 MEMOIR, 2 ESSAYS, 1 GRAPHIC ESSAY, 3 SHORT STORY COLLECTIONS, AND 5 POETRY COLLECTIONS. ADDITIONALLY, WE REPRINTED AND MAINTAINED A BACKLIST OF OVER 345 WORKS. THE AUTHORS OF THESE BOOKS INCLUDE AFRICAN AMERICANS, ASIAN AMERICANS, NATIVE AMERICANS, LATIN AMERICANS, AND EUROPEAN AMERICANS. MANY WRITERS ON THE BACKLIST WERE LIVING IN MINNESOTA AT THE TIME OF THE PUBLICATION OR LIVING OUTSIDE THE BORDERS OF THE UNITED STATES. THEIR PERSPECTIVES TRAVERSE THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE AND ILLUSTRATE DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES WHILE PRESENTING LITERATURE TO THE WORLD. SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS THIS PAST YEAR INCLUDE THE PUBLICATION OF ROQUE LARRAQUY'S COMEMADRE, WHICH WAS LONGLISTED FOR THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARD IN TRANSLATION AND THE BEST TRANSLATED BOOK AWARD AND LISTED BY PUBLISHERS WEEKLY AS ONE OF THE BEST WORKS OF FICTION PUBLISHED IN 2018. WE ALSO PLACED FOUR MINNESOTA WRITERS IN RESIDENCIES IN LIBRARIES/ARCHIVES THROUGH OUR CHP IN THE STACKS PROGRAM, FACILITATING THE CREATION OF NEW WORK AND THE EXPANSION OF THEIR ARTISTIC PRACTICES WHILE INSPIRING CREATIVE ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN COMMUNITIES AND COLLECTIONS.
