THE GROWTH COUNCIL RECOGNIZED 88 LOCAL BUSINESSES FOR THEIR INVESTMENT IN GRANT COUNTY AT THE ANNUAL 2019 INVESTOR'S LUNCHEON. THE GROWTH COUNCIL FACILITATED COMMUNITY PITCH NIGHT, A SHARK-TANK STYLE ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETITION IN DOWNTOWN MARION. 22 ENTREPRENEURS APPLIED AND 3 WERE SELECTED TO PITCH THEIR BUSINESS CONCEPT TO A LIVE AUDIENCE OF OVER 200 PEOPLE. THE GROWTH COUNCIL ASSISTED THE CITY OF MARION IN APPLYING FOR THE MAIN STREET REVITALIZATION GRANT PROGRAM TO IN-FILL THE STEAM TUNNELS AND REPAIR THE SIDEWALKS ALONG 3RD TO 5TH STREET OF DOWNTOWN MARION. THE GROWTH COUNCIL BROUGHT THE COLLEGIATE ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETITION, I69, TO GRANT COUNTY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ITS HISTORY. INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY, TAYLOR UNIVERSITY, IVY TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE, GRACE COLLEGE, AND HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY PARTICIPATED AND COMPETED TO DEVELOP A FOR-PROFIT SOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM OF INCREASING WORKFORCE PARTICIPATION. LOCAL RESTAURANTS CATERED THE EVENT AND LOCAL EMPLOYERS SPOKE AS INDUSTRY EXPERTS. THE GROWTH COUNCIL WORKED WITH THE CITY OF MARION AND OTHER LOCAL PARTNERS TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR THE DNR'S NEXT LEVEL TRAILS GRANT. THE FEATURED PROJECT WAS TO CONNECT THE CARDINAL GREENWAY TO THE MISSISSINEWA RIVER WALKWAY. THE GROWTH COUNCIL RETOOLED THE GRANTS FOR GRADS PROGRAM-THE DOWNPAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM-TWEAKING THE MISSION OF THE PROGRAM TO FOCUS ON HELPING EMPLOYERS RECRUIT TALENT, AND ULTIMATELY, RENAMING THE PROGRAM: GRANT'S GOT TALENT. THE NEW PROGRAM GUIDELINES TARGET INDIVIDUALS WORKING IN GRANT COUNTY'S FASTEST GROWING INDUSTRY SECTORS, WHILE GIVING EMPLOYERS A CHANCE TO MATCH FUNDS. 6 EMPLOYEES AND EMPLOYERS WERE ASSISTED BY THE GRANT'S GOT TALENT PROGRAM. THE GROWTH COUNCIL COLLABORATED WITH WORK ONE, MARION PUBLIC LIBRARY, THE MARION-GRANT COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AND GAS CITY AREA CHAMBER TO ESTABLISH A MONTHLY COMMUNITY JOB FAIR IN WHICH EMPLOYERS CONNECT WITH JOB SEEKERS.
