MOMS ORANGE COUNTY IS A UNIQUELY QUALIFIED ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES ACCESS TO PRENATAL CARE, HEALTH SCREENINGS, INFANT DEVELOPMENT SCREENINGS, HEALTH EDUCATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES THROUGH MONTHLY HOME VISITS AND GROUP CLASSES. UNDER NURSE SUPERVISION, WOMEN AND THEIR BABIES RECEIVE ONE-ON-ONE EDUCATION AND SUPPORT DURING PREGNANCY AND THROUGH BABY'S FIRST YEAR. DURING PREGNANCY, THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON MEASURES TO INCREASE THE MOTHER'S CHANCE OF DELIVERING A HEALTHY BABY. AFTER BIRTH, THE FOCUS IS ON PROMOTING THE BABY'S HEALTHY GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT AND MOTHER'S WELL-BEING. MOMS ORANGE COUNTY SERVES MORE THAN 3,100 LOW-INCOME FAMILIES ANNUALLY IN ORANGE COUNTY. IN FISCAL YEAR 2017-2018, 15,867 HOME VISITS, 745 HEALTH EDUCATION CLASSES, AND 40 SUPPORT GROUPS WERE CONDUCTED. MOMS ORANGE COUNTY HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY THE CHILDREN & FAMILIES COMMISSION OF ORANGE COUNTY, THE ORANGE COUNTY HEALTH CARE AGENCY, THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES, AND THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS FOR ITS INNOVATIVE WORK IN THE COMMUNITY AND IMPACT ON THE HEALTH OF WOMEN AND BABIES IN ORANGE COUNTY.IN FISCAL YEAR 2017-2018, MOMS ORANGE COUNTY SERVED 3,129 LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. AS A RESULT, AT-RISK MOTHERS ACCESSED PRENATAL CARE, BABIES WERE BORN HEALTHY AND REACHED THEIR DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES ON TIME, AND FATHERS WERE PREPARED FOR A POSITIVE ROLE IN THE FAMILY. THE ULTIMATE RETURN ON INVESTING IN MOMS ORANGE COUNTY IS THE IMPROVED HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF MOTHERS AND BABIES IN THE MATERNAL-CHILD HEALTH COORDINATION PROGRAM AS EVIDENCED BY THEIR HEALTH OUTCOMES:- 89% OF HIGH-RISK MOTHERS DID NOT DEVELOP GESTATIONAL DIABETES DURING THEIR PREGNANCY - 86% OF BABIES HAD A POSITIVE BIRTH OUTCOME (NO LOW BIRTH WEIGHT, PREMATURE BIRTH OR NICU ADMISSION)- 98% OF BABIES WERE BREASTFED AT DISCHARGE FROM HOSPITAL (43% EXCLUSIVELY BREASTFED)- 96% OF BABIES WERE ON TRACK DEVELOPMENTALLY- 99% OF BABIES HAD A MEDICAL HOME- 96% OF BABIES WERE ON TRACK WITH THEIR IMMUNIZATIONSMOMS ORANGE COUNTY HAS DEMONSTRATED THROUGH RIGOROUS OUTSIDE EVALUATION THAT ITS PROGRAM IS NOT ONLY SOUND, BUT IS BRINGING CHILDREN IN A HIGHLY DISADVANTAGED POPULATION TO HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENTAL LEVELS THAT EXCEED THOSE SET BY THE GENERAL POPULATION.
