Depave transforms over-paved places, creates resilient community greenspaces, promotes workforce development and education, and advocates for policy change to undo manifestations of systemic racism.

Since 2008, Depave has worked intentionally with communities to remove underutilized pavement, replacing it with living, permeable design. Depave envisions an empowered society living within sustainable cities, built on a foundation of justice, equity, diversity, practicing inclusion and actively undoing systemic discrimination, social and environmental injustice of every kind. Depave imagines a sustainable city as a place where people and wildlife coexist and prosper amidst clean air, clean water, robust urban forests, thriving local agriculture, and healthy communities.

Accomplishments
- In 2018, depave engaged over 450 volunteers who conducted over 2,200 community service hours to transform several sites across the portland metropolitan region, including inukai boys and girls club (hillsboro), mount hood community college (gresham), latourette park (oregon city), and boise eliot elementary school (portland). in addition, depave hosted green thumbs weeding and site maintenance work parties at three past portland sites (saint peter and paul church, james john elementary, and faithful savior lutheran church). through our placemaking projects we removed over 17,800 square feet of pavement and created four new greenspaces. in 2018 depave planted over 2,000 trees, shrubs and other plants, and built ten new rain gardens, which infiltrate stormwater runoff from thousands of square feet of adjacent impervious areas. by reducing impervious surfaces and utilizing green infrastructure techniques such as rain gardens and bioswales, depave reduced stormwater runoff and contributed to improved water quality.
