About this organization
Mission
The Theater of the Emerging American Moment, Inc. (The TEAM), is a Brooklyn-based theatre ensemble whose mission is to collaboratively create new works about the experience of living in America today, and to generate dialogue about our nation's past, present, and future through national and international touring.
About
In FY19, the TEAM offered a wealth of program services. We produced the United States premiere of "Anything That Gives Off Light," a music-theater production developed in collaboration with the National Theatre of Scotland and with original music by the folk-punk duo The Bengsons. "Anything That Gives Off Light" had a cast and creative team of 21 artists, and began with a residency and two performances at Virginia Tech's Moss Arts Center in Blacksburg, VA. The production then traveled to Cumberland Gap, TN, to offer a free performance for the communities in Appalachia who helped us to develop the piece. This free performance was followed by three days of workshops, story circles, community meals and jamborees with local audience members at different sites in Appalachia. We then produced a 3-week run of "Anything That Gives Off Light" at Joe's Pub in New York City. The TEAM also produced "Tomorrow Will Be...", a multi-generational celebration of protest music, presented in Portland, OR in collaboration with Boom Arts. The TEAM filmed some short videos starring 95-year-old actor Vinie Burrows, to be integrated into our upcoming work "Reconstruction (Still Working but the Devil Might Be Inside)" and supported development and work-in-progress performances of "The Hole" by Zhailon Levingston and "An Exit Ticket" by Jill Frutkin as part of our Petri Projects program: a lab for new seedlings of theatrical projects. Finally, we led a series of workshops in self-producing and devising new theatre for emerging artists and high school students in New York City.
