Mission

Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions provides a modern, free-roaming adoption center to minimize the stress experienced by homeless cats and optimize the opportunity for adoption. When owners are no longer able to care for their pets, we offer an alternative to taking them to a shelter or leaving them on the street.

About

Founded in 2007, Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that relies on the generosity of individuals and local businesses to help pets in need. We were initially foster-based, completing over 5,000 cat adoptions primarily out of retail locations. In January 2019 we were fortunate to receive funding to create a cage-free adoption center where both cats and people can relax in an environment that is more comfortable and natural than the retail adoption setting. This gives us a greater opportunity to match the right cat with the right family. We rely greatly on volunteers, many of whom have remained committed to helping us fulfill our mission throughout the years. In 2021, Homeward Bound received thousands of calls from people seeking our help for cats in need. We are proud to have helped so many of them. And yet there were so many that we were not able to assist. This is the tragic reality of the enormous challenge we face in a community with hundreds of thousands of cats and kittens in need of support. What can a small organization like Homeward Bound do about this heartbreaking reality? We can prove our commitment and do more. We will use best practices to offer quality care. We can prioritize our intake to focus on cats most at risk - especially cats in need of rehoming; kittens who need our specialized care; and cats who have been abandoned, are sick or injured, or are not thriving out in the community. We want to save them all. We commit to do more. To start, this year we have set an aggressive goal for 1,000 adoptions. That is 36% more than we adopted out last year. In addition, we want to save more lives by expanding our programs to share information and resources to empower people to support their own cats and others they find in the community, exponentially expanding our capacity to save lives. We will do this through hard work and by applying proven practices for small cat rescues like us. We will utilize our volunteers and foster families, many of whom have remained committed to helping us fulfill our mission throughout the years. We will encourage community engagement, helping to guide positive outcomes, and collaboration. We have a lot of work to do, and, with your help, we are ready to meet the challenge to save the innocent lives of cats and kittens in our community.
