Mission

To provide a safe, caring environment for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats until they can be placed with loving families, and to promote humane values in our communities. in addition to caring for the animals, the shelter also provides community outreach and education programs.

About

PAWS serves homeless and unwanted cats and dogs from our 12 communities. Additionally, we serve the residents of these communities, as well as, those of neighboring communities through our outreach efforts and in our humane education and training programs. Two of our most important programs are the care of our communities homeless, abused, and abandoned cats and dogs and our humane education programs. In 2018 we cared for 875 animals at the shelter and placing 96% of them in homes. In our humane education program we served 85 youth in our summer camp and school break camps - teaching them humane values, empathy, animal care, safety, and advocacy. Benefit to Community: PAWS Animal Adoption Center provides numerous benefits to our communities. We work to humanely address the issues of animal control by partnering with our towns and animal control officers to care for the lost, abandoned, and unwanted cats and dogs. We work with the community to match pets with loving homes through our adoption services and provide veterinary services to all animals who come to our facility. PAWS maintains a firm commitment to educating the local community on the matters of pet care, animal safety, and the importance of spaying and neutering, annual immunizations and disease control. Additionally, through various programs and training opportunities we help to strengthen the animal-human bond of hundreds of pet owners each year. Most important programs:1.Adoption: The care and placement of homeless and abandoned cats and dogs is paramount to our mission; It is why the organization began and why we continue today. Over the past 3 three years we have seen a drastic increase in our intake numbers. In 2016 the number was 206, in 2018 we carted for 857 animals with a 96% adoption rate.2.Humane Education: In 2017 we started offering monthly humane education workshops. We also started offering week long youth summer camps and break camps with a focus on the humane treatment of animals, their care, and what you can do to advocate for them. Both of these offerings are hugely successful. 3.Outreach: PAWS Cares Wellness Clinics.
