Mission

Oak-Leyden Developmental Services is a community-based, non-profit agency whose mission is to help children and adults with developmental disabilities meet life's challenges and reach their highest potential. The organization celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2016. Originally formed as the Oak Community School in 1956, the agency was founded by concerned parents who wanted their children with developmental disabilities to receive the training and education that would allow them to be as independent as possible within home, work, and community settings. The agency serves more than 450 individuals each year from communities in western Cook County.

About

Community living services served 52 residents in 12 community integrated homes (CILA), housing 4-6 residents, with 24 hour personal care and meal support. We also serve 3 residents who reside in their own apartments and receive intermittent support. Residents have enjoyed numerous activities such as restaurants, bowling, movies, parties, zoo visits and much more. Our multi-disciplinary clinic has overseen the health and well-being of our residents by coordinating and following up with every medical/psychiatric appointment routine or otherwise as well as managing the administration of medications.
