The mission of the museum is to preserve and share the cultural heritage of Bandera County and the Texas frontier times.The museum serves the county and visitors through eclectic collections that tell stories through exhibitions and educational programs that promote Bandera County and its impact on the Texas frontier.

The museum hosts educational programs for area schools and home schooled students which include field trips and a Traveling Texas History Trunk program which are portable units that are brought to the schools to be used in the classroom to enhance school curriculum. The museum hosts cultural and historical programs for adults and children which include a free monthly musical program called Frontier Times Jubilee, Texas history lectures series, and a traditional Ranch Rodeo.
