We do this by addressing the root causes of low literacy in adults, effective remediation programs, and innovative prevention programs. THE ONE-TO-ONE AND SMALL GROUP TUTORING PROGRAM HELPS MEN AND WOMEN BUILD A BETTER LIFE WHEN THEY ACQUIRE THE LITERACY SKILLS THAT MANY OF US TAKE FOR GRANTED. THEIR WORLD EXPANDS WHEN THEY CAN FILL OUT A JOB APPLICATION,IMPROVE EMPLOYMENT SKILLS,OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT,REGISTER TO VOTE, USE A COMPUTER, READ TO THEIR CHILDREN, OR EARN THEIR GED. THE ADULT LITERACY LEAGUE'S FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM PROVIDES BOOKS AND OTHER LITERACY MATERIALS FOR PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY. THIS PROGRAM TRAINS PARENTS TO BE THE FIRST AND MOST EFFECTIVE TEACHER IN THEIR CHILD'S LIFE TO PREPARE THEM FOR SUCCESS WHEN THEY ENTER SCHOOL. FAMILY LITERACY HELPS TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY.
