Mission

Advance the understanding of the human impact on New Jersey's aquatic environment

About

BCB conducts experiential education programs aboard the authentically restored 1928 Delaware Bay oyster schooner, the A.J. Meerwald (on the national register of historic places). Students learn about the history, culture and environment of Delaware Bay. The hands-on nature of the program inspires self-confidence and builds life skills in the participants. Day programs as well as weeklong camp programs are offered. School groups as well as family groups and general public programming are offered. The shipboard programs are designed to build a constituency of folks who appreciate their connection to their watershed (their local interface with the planet) and are inspired to be engaged in the world around them. Program participants are given the tools to appreciate history, understand the impact of their daily choices on the environment and feel empowered to make a difference. Each year over 5,000 students and adults experience the programs on the Meerwald.
