About this organization
Mission
Aslan provides relationship-driven programs that impact and empower urban, at-risk children. For the past 45 years, we have provided community outreach programs to impoverished areas in Monmouth County. In 1996, Aslan also established an outreach near Ouanaminthe, Haiti, along the northeastern border of the Dominican Republic. You may recognize the name Aslan as the central character in C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series. We represent what Aslan, the Lion of Narnia, stands for – Compassion, Guidance, and Truth in sharing our lives with urban, at-risk children in New Jersey & Haiti. Through continual encouragement, Aslan helps children ages 5 - 18 and beyond reach deep within, overcome their limitations and, with God's help, find the strength to endure and succeed.
About
YOUTH CLASSES: Throughout the week and throughout the year, Aslan provides afternoon and evening Right Choices classes for 120 youth, ages 6 - 18. Once again, education is at the heart of each class with our purpose to provide strong moral guidance through teaching Judeo-Christian values. Our goal is to develop close relationships of trust and encourage young people to make good decisions that will benefit them and their fellow man. Much time is spent in anger management training, conflict resolution and the basics of how to treat others as you desire to be treated. Children learn the value of working together, recognizing that one's world does not revolve simply around your personal needs. Numerous educational & recreational activities are employed through the youth classes, including: back to-school clothing, field trips, holiday gift programs, nutritious snacks, holiday food baskets, etc. During the summer months, ASLAN operates summer day camps for 100 children. A centerpiece of Aslan's summer program is our Haiti Project. Since 1996, Aslan has taken select teenagers to Ouanaminthe, Haiti, a remote village near the Dominican Republic border. Spending 12 days in the most difficult conditions - with brutal heat, no electricity and amidst an entire nation in abject poverty. Our Aslan youth gain a new perspective on their problems in America and a renewed desire to achieve in school. Each year we perform a variety of humanitarian aid projects including: providing staff nurses for a medical clinic and distributing medical supplies; distributing eye glasses; construction projects; and, operating a day camp for school children. In Kind Donations and Grants Received Totaling : $234,474Time $ 187,503Space $ 29,700 Goods $ 17,271
