Mission

LIGHTHOUSE THERAPEUTIC FOSTER CARE SERVES AS A LEADING LIGHT TO GUIDE THE COMMUNITY'S FOSTER CHILDREN. THE PURPOSE IS TO KEEP KIDS IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITY. IT WAS ESTABLISHED TO FILL THE NEED FOR THE PREVIOUS LACK OF FOSTER CARE FACILITIES IN THE AREA. THE CONTINUOUS CARE THE FACILITY PROVIDES MAKES THEIR FACILITY DISTINGUISHED. BY DOING THINGS SUCH AS KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH A CHILD'S SCHOOL, CONTACTING BIOLOGICAL FAMILIES, GIVING ADVICE, AND MAKING SURE A CHILD RECEIVES THE PROPER MEDICAL HELP, THE FACILITY'S LEADERS ARE MORE LIKE MENTORS THAN OWNERS. THE CHILDREN HAVE SOMEONE WHO THEY CAN CALL 24 HOURS A DAY.

About

THE OFFICERS, MONTY CHANCEY AND ERIC CONEY, DESCRIBED THEIR FIRST CASE AS ONE OF THE MOST REWARDING AND MEMORABLE. THIS CONCERNED TWO BROTHERS, AGES SEVEN AND 15. THEY CONTACTED FOSTER PARENTS FOR THE BROTHERS ONE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS. THE SEVEN YEAR OLD HAD MEDICAL ISSUES THAT LED TO BRAIN SURGERY. THE 15 YEAR OLD HAD DISCIPLINARY ISSUES. DESPITE THESE PROBLEMS, THE FOSTER PARENTS DECIDED TO ADOPT THE BROTHERS ABOUT A YEAR LATER. THE ADOPTIVE MOTHER EMBRACED THE KIDS LIKE IT WAS NOTHING, CONEY SAID OF THE ADOPTIVE MOTHER. THEYRE DOING GREAT NOW. THE OFFICERS DESIRE FOR EACH CHILD TO GROW UP IN A LOVING HOME AND BE ADOPTED JUST AS THESE BOYS; THEREFORE, THEY RECRUIT AND TRAIN THE FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE PARENTS. "IT DOESNT TAKE MUCH TO BE A FOSTER PARENT ON PAPER, CHANCEY SAID. CONEY CLAIMS THE TOUGHEST PART OF THEIR JOB IS DECIDING WHO IS IN IT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS, AND NOT JUST THE MONEY. OUR SUCCESS RATE FOR THESE KIDS HAS BEEN REALLY, REALLY GOOD, ALMOST OVERWHELMING, CHANCEY SAID. WEVE PROBABLY SERVICED 100 KIDS SINCE WE STARTED. WE WANT TO GROW. CHANCEY ESTIMATED THAT 95 PERCENT OF THEIR CASES HAVE BEEN ABUSED OR NEGLECTED IN SOME FORM. " THERE MAY BE MINOR PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS OR MAJOR PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS, CHANCEY SAID. ITS A CONSTANT TREATMENT PROGRAM. "EACH KID HAS THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL PLAN THAT FITS THEIR OWN NEEDS, CONEY SAID. "JUST SEEING THE KID HAPPY, SEEING THAT SMILE ON HIS OR HER FACE ONE DAY, CONEY SAID. CONEY SAID THAT THE MOST REWARDING PART OF THEIR WORK IS PUTTING CHILDREN WITH FAMILIES.
