About
EXPANDED LEARNING PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH: 11,559 low-income K-12 students were served across 15 public elementary/middle schools and 9 high schools for 180 days during the school year, 20 days during the summer, and on weekend/intersession periods, through the ASPIRE, ASPIRE PLUS and PREP programs. Daily activities were aligned with school day instruction and included homework help and tutoring, enrichment activities, recreation/physical fitness and experiential learning field trips. Regular program attendees (30 days) had fewer school day absences and improved scores in English/Language Arts and Mathematics on annual standardized testing compared to their non-attendee peers. 78% of students report the program has helped them to learn skills that will help them be successful in life.STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES: 6,972 students in grades K-8 were served in our tutoring program on weekdays and 5,399 students in grades K-8 were served during our Saturday Academy. During both program services, students were provided high quality, research-based instruction, specially designed to increase student academic achievement in math and science. A total of 318 hours of service were provided over the course of the two programs. Over 79% of students indicated they felt more comfortable solving math problems and 92% of parents rated the program as good or excellent.SPORTS & RECREATION FOR YOUTH: 625 students were served in the KidsPlay program across 52 gender-specific teams. The program provided organized sports opportunities in Basketball, Olympic Handball, Flag Football, and Cross-Country for youth who might not have had the opportunity to play otherwise at no cost to the youth. The emphasis of KidsPlay is to provide an opportunity to play, learn and develop confidence in learning new and healthy lifestyle skills.
