VIVACE YOUTH CHORUS OF SAN JOSE CONTINUES TO PROVIDE YOUTH WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE THE POWER AND POETRY OF SONG IN AN INCLUSIVE, COEDUCATIONAL, AND NURTURING ENVIRONMENT THAT FOSTERS COMMUNITY, CONFIDENCE, AND ARTISTIC GROWTH, AND CREATES AWARENESS OF OUR PARTICIPANTS' CULTURES. WE SEEK TO PROVIDE A QUALITY MUSICAL EDUCATION FOR ALL YOUTH, REGARDLESS OF THEIR ECONOMIC, CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND OTHER BACKGROUNDS.WE OFFER AN AFFORDABLE CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAM TO YOUTH AGES 4-18 IN AN AREA WHERE THE ARTS ARE OFTEN LEFT OUT OF SCHOOL CURRICULA DUE TO BUDGET CONSTRAINTS. IN ADDITION, WE GRANT SCHOLARSHIPS TO PARTICIPANTS IN FINANCIAL NEED AND PROVIDE ENGAGING PROGRAMMING AND A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR SINGERS THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY. DURING THE 2018-2019 SEASON, VIVACE CONTINUED TO OFFER 6 LEVELS OF MUSIC INSTRUCTION DIVIDED INTO 14 CLASSES PER WEEK IN OUR CORE CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAM. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING CHOIR CLASSES, VIVACE PRESENTED WORKSHOPS, CAMPS, RETREATS, AND CONCERTS, WITH WHICH WE SOUGHT TO STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNAL BOND OF OUR SINGERS AND ENCOURAGE ARTISTIC GROWTH FOR BOTH SINGERS AND ENSEMBLES. KEY PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR 16TH YEAR INCLUDED RECEIVING A COMMENDATION FROM THE CITY OF SAN JOSE, PRODUCING A WEST COAST PREMIERE OF RACHEL J. PETERS OPERA "ROOTABAGA COUNTRY" IN OUR OPERA WORKSHOP, TRAVELING TO COSTA RICA FOR A MUSICAL AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE TOUR, AND COLLABORATING WITH SOME OF THE FINEST PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY MUSIC ENSEMBLES IN THE AREA, INCLUDING SAN JOSE SYMPHONIC CHOIR, NOVA VISTA SYMPHONY, OPERA SAN JOSE, DAVID BENOIT, PENINSULA CANTARE, AND RESOUNDING ACHORD.
